About the Role

We're seeking a talented Lead Data Engineer to spearhead the development of our data platform, focusing on workflow scheduling applications and data ingestion infrastructure. This role is pivotal in powering the analytics, operations, and data technology behind our flagship streaming services. As a Lead Data Engineer on the Orchestration team, you'll be at the heart of ensuring a high-quality streaming experience across various devices and platforms, leveraging cutting-edge technologies from AWS and beyond.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership in Software Development: Guide a cross-functional team of engineers in building software for a large-scale data processing environment that supports both real-time and batch data, underpinning all analytic and operational data flows.
  • Data Platform Enhancement: Develop tools and services to facilitate data discovery, lineage, resiliency, and privacy compliance across the data platform.
  • CICD and Infrastructure: Design and implement CICD pipelines for infrastructure components to ensure high availability and agility.
  • Engineering Excellence: Drive software engineering and architecture best practices and standards within the team and wider organization, fostering a culture of quality, innovation, and experimentation.
  • Mentorship and Adoption: Provide mentorship and guidance for team members, evangelize the platform and best practices, and identify new use cases and capabilities to drive adoption.

Qualifications and Skills

To excel in this role, you should possess:

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of relevant professional experience.
  • Fluency in Python and Scala.
  • Deep experience deploying and running cloud-based data solutions (ideally AWS) and infrastructure-as-code frameworks like Terraform.
  • Ability to dive deep into technical details and understand and drive the overall systems architecture.
  • A strong focus on software craftsmanship and the ability to work backwards from the customer experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • Experience maintaining real-time data infrastructure such as Kinesis or Kafka.
  • Expertise with workflow scheduler tools like Airflow.
  • Hands-on experience with Scala, Python, Terraform, and AWS.

Education and Experience

A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or relevant professional experience, is required. We're looking for individuals with a strong background in data engineering and a passion for innovation.

Compensation and Benefits

The hiring range for this position is $35 to $45 per hour. The actual base pay offered will depend on various factors, including internal equity, geographic location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
