Job Overview
- Start Date: Immediate openings available for the Fall 2023 semester, with classes starting on October 16, 2023, and ending on December 16, 2023.
- Position: Astronomy Instructor, Part-Time Faculty
- Compensation: A competitive hourly rate based on degree, ranging from $43.83 to $58.95 per hour.
- Location: Remote, online asynchronous classes
Key Responsibilities
As an Astronomy Instructor at Copper Mountain Community College, you will be responsible for:
- Conducting assigned classes and laboratories according to the published class schedule.
- Publishing and maintaining office hours, advising students on course content, scope, and requirements.
- Developing and implementing instruction that fulfills course requirements and is consistent with academic and vocational program standards.
- Creating a written syllabus based on Academic Senate standards and submitting it according to District policy.
- Assessing and advising students on their progress toward meeting course objectives.
- Respecting student rights as specified in District policy and applicable federal and state laws.
- Submitting textbook adoption forms, referring students to tutoring and related services, and supervising students in off-campus activities when necessary.
- Assigning and submitting grades by deadline, keeping official records, and submitting necessary forms.
Additional Responsibilities
- Responding to administration regarding student petitions and grievances.
- Abiding by District regulations concerning equipment use, care, and security.
- Advising management of unsafe conditions, potential hazards, or accidents.
- Demonstrating awareness and sensitivity to the diverse backgrounds of community college students.
Qualifications and Requirements
To be considered for this position, you must meet the Minimum Qualifications for Faculty and Administrators in California Community Colleges as adopted by the California Community Colleges Board of Governors for the discipline. The minimum qualifications include:
- Master's in physics, astronomy, or astrophysics.
- OR Bachelor's in physics or astronomy AND Master's in engineering, mathematics, meteorology, or geophysics.
- OR the equivalent.

- College transcripts for Master's and Bachelor's degrees from an accredited college or university.
