Job Summary: Cross Categorical Itinerant Special Education Aide

As a Cross Categorical Itinerant Special Education Aide, you will play a vital role in assisting students with physical, social-emotional, behavioral, self-help, and/or developmental deficits. This position requires a versatile and skilled individual who can adapt to various classroom settings, including preschool, Intensive Resource (IR), and Extended Resource (ER) special education classrooms. Your primary responsibility will be to provide personalized support to students, helping them achieve their academic and personal goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the care and tutoring of students with diverse needs, promoting their academic, social, and emotional growth.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and other support staff to develop and implement individualized education plans.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of developmental disabilities and provide empathetic support to students.
  • Utilize effective communication skills to interact with students, staff, and parents, ensuring clear and respectful communication.
  • Employ de-escalation techniques to manage conflict situations and safely restrain students when necessary.
  • Participate in training and professional development opportunities to enhance your skills and knowledge.
  • Maintain a safe and supportive learning environment, adhering to district policies and procedures.

Essential Qualifications:

To be considered for this role, you must meet one of the following qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, and completion or the ability to complete the ParaProfessional Assessment within four months of hire.
  • Associate's degree or higher.
  • Completion of two years of higher education (at least 48 semester hours) or the equivalent.

Additionally, you must:

  • Possess a valid driver's license and have access to a personal vehicle.
  • Be able to work in a remote location, Eielson Air Force Base, AK.
  • Demonstrate the ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. regularly.
  • Complete de-escalation training within the first six months of employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

While not required, the following qualifications are highly valued:

  • Previous experience working with students with special needs.
  • Knowledge of basic reading, math, and curricular areas appropriate for the age-level of students.
  • Signing skills (ASL I and ASL II) for positions that require it.
