The City of San Antonio's Parks and Recreation Department is seeking a talented and passionate Recreation Instructor - Dance to join our team on a temporary basis. As a Recreation Instructor - Dance, you will have the opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of San Antonio residents by teaching and leading dance classes for diverse age groups and skill levels.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and conduct City-wide dance programs for all ages, creating engaging lesson plans, registering participants, and corresponding with participants and parents.
  • Act as a resource person in dance instruction, providing guidance and support to other Recreation Specialists and community groups.
  • Represent the Parks and Recreation Department at meetings and conferences related to dance instruction.
  • Purchase and procure materials and equipment necessary for dance programs.
  • Maintain accurate financial and activity records, submitting periodic and special reports as required.
  • Perform related duties and fulfill responsibilities as required, including traveling to different sites and transporting supplies and equipment.

Recreational Program Specialties: Dance

As a Recreation Instructor - Dance, you will develop, supervise, and conduct modern, ballet, tap, jazz, and street dance classes for diverse age groups and skill levels. You will demonstrate dance movements, instruct classes, and provide individualized feedback to participants.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Two (2) years of experience in community center or related activities.
  • Valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Educational background in dance or related field, with a focus on modern, ballet, tap, jazz, or street dance.
  • Prior experience teaching dance classes for beginner to advanced skill levels, ages 4 to adult.
  • One (1) year of choreography experience.
  • Recital production experience.
  • Bilingual in speaking, reading, and writing in English and Spanish.
  • Cash handling experience.

Skills and Competencies

  • Knowledge of various dance styles and techniques.
  • Ability to originate ideas and concepts and translate them into engaging dance programs.
  • Ability to effectively develop programs through community evaluation and feedback.
  • Ability to maintain accurate and updated records, providing concise reports.
  • Ability to perform all physical requirements of the position, with or without accommodations.

Compensation and Benefits

The City of San Antonio offers a competitive compensation package, including an hourly rate of $18.92.
