The Role: Special Education Teacher (Moderate-Severe)

We're seeking an exceptional Special Education Teacher: Moderate-Severe to join our team at Rocketship Public Schools. As an Education Specialist, you'll play a critical role in managing the IEP caseload for Rocketship students who require special education services. Your expertise will help improve student outcomes through targeted academic and behavioral support, ensuring that every Rocketeer achieves their full potential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure that all students realize rigorous academic goals outlined in their IEP, with a focus on achieving at least 1.5 years of growth.
  • Support students in developing critical life, social, and academic skills through targeted instruction.
  • Collaborate with school teams, families, and related service providers to improve student outcomes, develop solutions, and plan curriculum.
  • Provide one-to-one or small group instruction, direct services, and push-in or pull-out instruction as required by IEP.
  • Co-teach with general educators and related service providers to ensure inclusive education practices for all students.
  • Coordinate referral and assessment procedures, facilitate IEP team meetings, and ensure the implementation of special education services.
  • Evaluate students' academic abilities to inform collaboration with team members and create effective educational programs.
  • Collaborate with psychologists and related service providers on evaluations and assessments.
  • Develop and implement Behavior Support Plans (BSPs) or Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) as needed.
  • Manage student behavior to provide a safe and optimal learning environment.
  • Collaborate with general educators to engage families and school communities through various meetings.
  • Ensure full compliance with legal requirements under IDEA and state laws and regulations.

Qualifications and Requirements

To be successful in this role, you'll need:

  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • A Valid Special Education Teaching Credential or the ability to enroll in an accredited teacher preparation program to work towards a credential while teaching with Rocketship.
  • Knowledge of curriculum, education code, and special education law/policies (preferred).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks.
