Role Overview
We are seeking passionate and dedicated part-time online educators to join our team in North Carolina. As a part-time online educator with Hoot Reading, you will have the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of your students, working with them to improve their reading skills and confidence. Key Responsibilities
- Deliver structured literacy instruction to students, following the Science of Reading method and adapting lesson plans to meet individual student needs.
- Maintain accurate records and manage your schedule through our web-based platform, ensuring seamless communication with students, parents, and schools.
- Build trusting relationships with students, parents, and schools, providing regular progress updates and feedback.
- Track and monitor student progress diligently, identifying areas of strength and weakness, and developing targeted strategies to support student growth.
- Be punctual for all tutoring sessions, maintaining excellent attendance and representing Hoot Reading with professionalism and integrity.
- Meet performance standards for all responsibilities related to your role, including attendance, instruction, data recording, and communication.
Availability and Scheduling
We are looking for educators who are available to work between the hours of 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM CT, Monday to Friday. Preference will be given to those who can consistently commit to 5 days per week with consistent time slots open for ease of student/teacher matching. Please note that this is a part-time role with up to 25 hours per week, offering flexibility and the opportunity to choose your own hours.
Qualifications and Requirements
To be considered for this role, you will need to meet the following essential qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Education or equivalent, with a strong foundation in literacy instruction and the Science of Reading.
- Minimum of 2 years of leading elementary classroom experience (Kindergarten to Grade 6), with a proven track record of supporting student growth and development.
- Strong understanding of key concepts such as phonemic awareness, decoding, fluency, and comprehension, with the ability to adapt instruction to meet individual student needs.
- Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is strongly encouraged, although not required.
- Reliable technology (laptop, headset, internet) and a quiet workspace, with the ability to pass background checks (cost covered).
Preferred Qualifications
While not essential, the following qualifications are preferred:
- Experience working with online education platforms or virtual learning environments.
- Knowledge of the Science of Reading pedagogy and its application in instructional design.
- Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and with varying learning needs.
