Job Summary

Are you a detail-oriented and organized individual with a passion for healthcare? Do you have experience in medical transcription, particularly in pathology? Wellstar Health System is seeking a highly skilled Pathology Transcriptionist - Lab Administration to join our team on a remote basis. As a Pathology Transcriptionist, you will play a critical role in supporting pathologists and other allied healthcare providers by transcribing pathology reports, coordinating patient case correspondence, and performing various administrative tasks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Transcription of Pathology Reports: Transcribe dictation from pathologists and pathologists' assistants, including gross and microscopic descriptions of specimens, patient demographics, and other relevant information.
  • Coordination of Patient Case Correspondence: Coordinate patient case correspondence materials for sending out for consultation, including preparing packages of blocks, slides, and reports.
  • Administrative Tasks: Perform various administrative tasks, such as answering phones, distributing mail, ordering supplies, and maintaining pathology files.
  • Quality Control: Ensure accuracy and completeness of all documents, tests ordered, and patient case reports.
  • Collaboration with Pathologists: Work closely with pathologists to obtain additional information, clarify diagnoses, and resolve any issues or discrepancies.
  • Preparation of Slides and Blocks: Prepare slides and blocks for peer review, tumor board, and other purposes as required.
  • Professional and Technical Billing: Assist with professional and technical billing, including documenting charges and interacting with the Pathology Medical Billing Group.
  • Physician Orders: Process physician orders for testing, including determining if tissue blocks contain enough tumor for testing and working with reference labs.
  • Legal Cases: Handle legal cases, including communicating with attorneys' offices, staff, and law enforcement individuals, and obtaining validity and approval of requests.

Requirements and Qualifications

Education:

  • High School Diploma: Required
  • Equivalent: Required
  • Formal Medical Transcribing: Preferred
  • Associate's Degree: Preferred

License(s) and Certification(s):

  • All Certifications: Required upon hire unless otherwise stated

Experience:

  • Less than 1 year: Six months transcription experience in a medical setting with pathology experience preferred

Skills:

  • Computer Skills: Proficiency in computer applications, including medical terminology and pathology specialty
  • Medical Terminology: Knowledge of medical terminology and pathology specialty
  • Organization and Efficiency: High level of organization, efficiency, and multifunctionality with ability to work independently and in a team
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Customer Service: Experience in customer service
