As a Business Data Scientist, you will play a critical role in supporting YouTube's decision-making processes by translating business questions into data-driven insights and communicating findings to non-technical audiences.
About the YouTube Business Strategy and Operations Team
The YouTube Business Strategy and Operations team is responsible for driving go-to-market capabilities for the YouTube Business Organization, including strategy, business operations, analytics, and data science. The team shapes go-to-market priorities to accelerate growth, improves capabilities and competencies to support business execution, drives performance across business operations, and builds robust go-to-market infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and lead causal research with the clear goal of answering business questions, and present actionable insights and recommendations to executives, business leaders, and cross-functional partners.
- Serve as a peer-reviewer and representative for causal research designed by other teams, ensuring the highest quality and integrity of research.
- Stay updated with advances in the causal inference literature, and develop new methods when appropriate to drive innovation and improvement.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to articulate business and product questions, and pull data from datasets using SQL and statistical tools.
- Communicate complex data insights to non-technical audiences, being clear about uncertainty and assumptions used in analysis.
Minimum Qualifications
To be considered for this role, you must have:
- A Master's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Applied Data, Machine Learning, or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience articulating business and product questions, and pulling data from datasets using SQL and statistical tools (e.g., R, SAS, Stata, MATLAB, etc.).
- Internship or experience with data evaluation, demonstrating a strong understanding of data analysis principles and practices.
Preferred Qualifications
To stand out as a candidate, you should have:
- Experience with Bayesian hierarchical models, Bayesian Additive Regression Trees (BART), Bayesian Causal Forest (BCF), Gaussian Processes, and Synthetic Control techniques.
- Experience designing and studying randomized controlled trials, and causal research using observational data.
- Experience with statistical data evaluation, including linear models, multivariate analysis, stochastic models, and sampling techniques.
- A strong understanding of causal inference literature and methods, with the ability to develop new methods when appropriate.

Compensation and Benefits
