About Apple Services Engineering (ASE) and iCloud Data

The Apple Services Engineering (ASE) organization is the driving force behind the development and innovation of Apple's cloud-centric products and experiences, including iCloud+, Photos, Mail, Messages, FaceTime, Calendar, Notes, and more. As a Senior Data Scientist in the ASE iCloud Data organization, you'll be part of a multi-disciplinary data team that partners closely with product, engineering, and business teams to develop a culture of leveraging data to inform and craft Apple's strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Communicate Technical Concepts to Senior Leadership: Distill complex technical concepts into actionable insights that inform senior leadership's decisions, driving better, more data-informed decision-making across the organization.
  • Craft the Narrative for iCloud Performance: Identify and elevate key insights, and develop scalable approaches for summarizing complex results into an accessible format, ensuring that stakeholders across the organization are aligned and informed.
  • Collaborate with Cross-Functional Teams: Partner with Data Engineering and other stakeholders to define metrics, instrumentation, and data requirements that drive business outcomes and inform product decisions.
  • Extract Insights from Complex Data: Extract information from structured and unstructured data, using statistical and machine learning techniques to identify key areas of opportunity and new questions to pursue.
  • Design and Analyze Experiments: Plan, design, and analyze A/B tests and experiment results, driving data-driven decision-making and informing product development.
  • Build Predictive Models: Develop models to forecast growth, capacity requirements, and other key business metrics, ensuring that the organization is equipped to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving market.

Essential Qualifications

  • 5+ Years of Experience in Analytics or Data Science: A proven track record of driving business outcomes with data-driven insights, and a deep understanding of statistical and machine learning techniques.
  • Excellent Communication Skills: The ability to communicate technical concepts to senior executive audiences, influencing decisions with data and driving business outcomes.
  • Statistical and Analytical Expertise: A strong understanding of statistical distributions, and the ability to apply statistical and machine learning techniques to complex data sets.
  • Data Visualization and Communication: The ability to visually communicate complex information in a clear and concise manner, using tools like Tableau, Superset, or ggplot.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in SQL, and at least one programming language (e.g., Python, R, Scala), with experience working in a team environment using tools like git, notebooks, and testing.
  • Curiosity and Creative Problem-Solving: A self-motivated and curious individual with proven creative and critical thinking capabilities, and a highly developed aim to improve how things work.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced Degree: A Master's or Ph.D. in a quantitative field such as Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, Economics, or Physics.
  • Experience with Big Data: Experience working with massive and complex datasets, using tools like Hive, Spark, or Druid.
