Position Overview

As a Family-Teaching Couple, you will be responsible for providing direct care and support to at-risk youth in a safe and caring family-style living environment. You will work together as a team to guide and counsel youth on appropriate skills and behaviors, and provide moral, spiritual, and educational development needed for future success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide a loving, caring, and safe environment for youth, fostering a family-style model with constant emotional support, praise, positive feedback, affection, and empathy.
  • Guide and counsel youth on appropriate skills and behaviors, and provide moral, spiritual, and educational development needed for future success.
  • Monitor off-campus activities and observe interactions of youth during home, recreational, and leisure times for appropriate skill development and safety.
  • Adhere to all child safety-related policies and procedures, including reporting guidelines and behavioral management.
  • Provide crisis intervention to youth out of instructional control, which may include physical restraint.
  • Plan, participate, and provide opportunities for individual and family fun activities that are entertaining and educational.
  • Model and teach parenting, family, and relationships skills to youth, legal guardians, and caretakers to sustain a collaborative relationship through effective family engagement practices.
  • Nurture and care for youth who are ill and in need of medical care or assistance.
  • Utilize a Boys Town vehicle to provide transportation for youth as needed.
  • Monitor the environment and ensure safe and secure conditions for youth.
  • Ensure safety in accordance with policies and procedures, including youth safety, outings, and reporting guidelines.
  • Provide direct care and service to children, and serve as an active member of the treatment team.
  • Participate in measuring progress and providing input on goals and discharge planning.
  • Collaborate with courts, social agencies, parents, school personnel, and other members of the treatment team about youth's behaviors and progress, strategies, and treatment.
  • Adhere to reporting guidelines and assess and monitor youth skills and progress to determine skill development needs and priorities.

Essential Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 21 years of age required.
  • Possess a valid driver's license with a good driving record and pass an annual Motor Vehicle Registration (MVR) check.
  • Possess a valid marriage certificate.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Some college credit is preferred.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven record of sound judgment and ability to work with children in a mature and responsible manner.
  • Ability to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care, based on physical, psychological, psycho/social, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the youth being served.
