About the Role
We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Special Education Paraeducator to join our team in Masuk, Connecticut. As a paraeducator, you will work under the supervision of a special education teacher to provide support to students with special needs in a variety of settings, including regular classrooms, resource rooms, and self-contained classrooms. Your primary responsibilities will include:
* Providing instructional support to students with diverse needs, adapting activities and materials as necessary
* Assisting with the implementation of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and behavioral plans
* Monitoring student behavior and providing support during classroom and non-classroom activities
* Communicating with teachers, support staff, and other school personnel to ensure that students receive comprehensive support
* Maintaining accurate records and reports
Key Responsibilities
As a Special Education Paraeducator, your key responsibilities will include:
* Adapting classroom activities, assignments, and materials to support students with diverse needs
* Administering tests, homework, and make-up work as directed by the teacher
* Assisting medically fragile or physically disabled students with personal hygiene and daily living activities
* Communicating with supervising instructional staff and professional support personnel to evaluate progress and implement IEP objectives
* Implementing behavioral plans designed by the IEP team for students with behavior disorders or other special conditions
* Maintaining instructional materials and records, including manual and electronic files
* Monitoring students during assigned periods in various school environments, such as classrooms, hallways, and playgrounds
* Providing instruction to students in individual and group activities, including academic subjects, social skills, and daily living skills
* Administering immediate first aid and medical assistance as instructed by a healthcare professional
* Responding to emergency situations to resolve immediate safety concerns
* Attending meetings and in-service presentations to acquire and convey information related to job functions
Requirements and Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will need:
* A high school diploma or equivalent
* Targeted job-related education that meets our organization's prerequisite requirements
* Job-related experience working with students with diverse needs (preferred)
* Ability to perform multiple tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in response to changing job conditions
* Specific skill-based competencies, including:
+ Adhering to safety practices
+ Operating standard office equipment and software applications
+ Preparing and maintaining accurate records
* Knowledge of:
+ Basic math concepts, including calculations using fractions, percents, and ratios
+ English language and grammar
+ Instructional procedures and practices
+ Age-appropriate student activities
+ Safety practices and procedures
+ Conflict resolution and stages of child development/behavior
* Ability to:
+ Communicate effectively with diverse groups of children and adults
+ Establish supportive and compassionate relationships with assigned students and staff
+ Maintain confidentiality and set priorities
+ Work as part of a team and adapt to changing circumstances
