Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Adult Education ESL Teacher to teach English as a Second Language courses in a remote setting. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and delivering lessons that cater to the diverse needs and skill levels of adult learners, preparing them for life goals and workforce participation. This is a part-time, non-union position with a competitive hourly rate of $35.24.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and prepare relevant and practical class lessons, monitoring student performance and adjusting instruction to meet individual needs.
  • Implement a variety of instructional delivery methods, including group and individualized instruction, as well as computer programs that support learning gains.
  • Create a climate that encourages and supports learning, promoting a culture of respect, inclusivity, and empathy.
  • Complete and maintain accurate student registration, attendance, and assessment records, ensuring timely submission of data for CARS input.
  • Demonstrate effective classroom management skills, enhancing student learning and minimizing disruptions.
  • Understand, model, and teach legal and ethical practices regarding information and educational technology.
  • Communicate effectively with students, colleagues, and stakeholders, both orally and in writing.
  • Participate in curriculum development, in-service training, and staff meetings, contributing to the ongoing improvement of our Adult Education program.

Essential Qualifications

  • Prior teaching experience, preferably in adult education or ESL instruction.
  • Valid Connecticut Teaching Certificate for the appropriate level of instruction and/or subjects for content area assignment.
  • Valid Adult Ed certification.
  • Knowledge of adult learner and alternative educational methods, with the ability to apply these methods in a multicultural and multi-level classroom.
  • Exceptional computer skills, with familiarity in software programs and audio-visual equipment.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse groups of students and colleagues.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, English, Linguistics, or a related field.
  • Experience working with adult learners from diverse backgrounds and skill levels.
  • Familiarity with curriculum design and implementation, as well as assessment and evaluation methods.
  • Proficiency in a second language, with an understanding of the challenges and opportunities of language learning.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, colleagues, and stakeholders.
  • Strong lesson planning and delivery skills, with the ability to adapt instruction to meet individual needs.
  • Effective classroom management skills, with the ability to minimize disruptions and promote a positive learning environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Suite, with experience in educational software and technology.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong commitment to collaboration and continuous improvement.
