About the Role
As a Remote Sign Language Interpreter, you will play a vital role in facilitating communication between students, teachers, and other stakeholders in educational settings. Your expertise in American Sign Language (ASL) will help to ensure that students with hearing impairments or other communication needs have equal access to educational opportunities. This is a unique chance to work with a dynamic team and make a real difference in the lives of students.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality sign language interpretation services in educational settings, including virtual classrooms and online meetings
- Interpret for students, teachers, and other stakeholders, facilitating effective communication and promoting academic success
- Work closely with educators and other support staff to understand the needs of students and develop strategies to support their learning
- Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion
- Stay up-to-date with developments in ASL and educational interpreting, continually refining your skills and knowledge
Essential Qualifications
To be considered for this role, you must meet the following essential qualifications:
- Bachelor's Level Degree in American Sign Language or Education Interpreting
- Nationally Certified Interpreter (NCI) or equivalent certification in American Sign Language (ASL) interpreting
- At least 2 years of experience providing sign language interpretation in educational settings
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, teachers, and other stakeholders
- Strong technical skills, including proficiency in video conferencing platforms and other digital tools
Preferred Qualifications
While not essential, the following qualifications are highly desirable:
- Experience working with diverse student populations, including those with varying levels of hearing loss or other communication needs
- Knowledge of educational software and technologies, including learning management systems and virtual classroom platforms
- Certification in specialized areas, such as Deaf-Blind interpreting or ASL-English translation
- Previous experience working in remote or virtual environments, with a strong ability to work independently and manage your time effectively
