Job Summary
The Library Learning Center Assistant - Guest Teaching Assistant will work closely with the LLC Director and Building Principal to provide support to students and staff. The primary focus of this role will be to provide access to library materials, facilitate information retrieval, and assist with instructional activities. This is a long-term guest teaching assistant position, and we are seeking a highly qualified candidate who shares our passion for education and learning.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the circulation of all library materials, ensuring that students and staff have access to the resources they need.
- Assist in the maintenance of the library collection, including mending, cleaning, inventory, packing, withdrawing, processing, and importing books.
- Support students and staff with locating materials, researching, and word processing using appropriate technology.
- Assist with instructional activities, including one-on-one, small group, and class instruction.
- Perform clerical tasks, such as typing, processing, record maintenance, and generating reports.
- Supervise the training and assignment of tasks to volunteer LLC helpers.
- Assist with the operation and delivery of AV equipment and materials.
- Support the management of reading incentive programs, book fairs, and special programs.
Requirements and Qualifications
To be considered for this role, you must meet the following requirements:
- Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Have a valid Educator License with Stipulations: Endorsed as a Paraprofessional Educator (or be willing to obtain one).
- Meet the State of Illinois requirements for Special Education Aides, including:
- Letter of paraprofessional approval from the State of Illinois.
- Current Illinois Teaching, School Service Personnel, or Administrative Certificate.
- Current Illinois Substitute Teaching Certificate.
- Current Illinois Provisional Vocational Certificate.
- Be at least 19 years of age.
- Have an Associate's degree or higher, or 60 semester hours of coursework.
- Have a score of 460 or higher on the ETS Parapro, or a score of 4 on the ACT Workkeys.
Preferred Qualifications
We prefer candidates who:
- Have experience working in a library or educational setting.
- Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Are able to work effectively with children and staff.
- Have knowledge of library operations and procedures.
- Are proficient in technology, including word processing and database management.
