Job Summary
As a Licensed Vocational Nurse - PRN NIGHTS, you will play a vital role in our nursing team, working under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) to provide exceptional patient care. Your responsibilities will include assessing patient conditions, administering medications, and performing various therapeutic procedures. Key Responsibilities
- Assumes responsibility for the care of assigned patients on designated shifts, working closely with the RN and other healthcare team members.
- Administers oral and IV medications as prescribed, ensuring accurate documentation and timely reporting of patient responses.
- Performs vital sign assessments, including temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation.
- Provides ostomy care, wound care, and dressing changes as needed.
- Monitors patients for changes in medical condition, notifying the physician and RN as appropriate.
- Collects and documents patient data, including intake and output, and reports any concerns to the RN.
- Assists with discharge planning, patient education, and community resource referrals.
- Maintains accurate and timely documentation in the medical record.
Requirements and Qualifications
Education and Training:
- Holds current licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) in the state of Texas.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
Experience:
- At least one year of inpatient medical-surgical nursing experience is preferred but not required.
- Experience in long-term acute care or rehabilitation settings is beneficial.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple patient assignments.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, adapting to changing patient needs and priorities.
- Compassionate and empathetic approach to patient care, with a focus on delivering high-quality, patient-centered care.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in emergency or critical care environments.
- Higher comfort level working with ventilators, tracheostomies, PICC lines, and other advanced medical equipment.
- Two or more years of experience in direct patient care.
