Ithaca College, nestled in the picturesque Finger Lakes region of New York, invites applications for a tenure-eligible Assistant Professor of Theatre Performance. About the Position

The successful candidate will be expected to teach a range of acting courses at the undergraduate level, from introductory to advanced classes, and coordinate intimacy staging in productions and classes as needed. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in acting and a secondary area of expertise in at least two of the following: audition techniques/career preparation, stage combat, acting for the camera, movement for the stage, integrated voice and movement, voice and speech, or directing. Ongoing scholarly, creative, and professional activity is expected and supported, with opportunities to contribute to the department's production season as a stage director.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned classes in acting practice at the undergraduate level, from beginning to advanced levels.
  • Coordinate intimacy staging in productions and classes as needed.
  • Develop and teach courses that reflect your secondary areas of expertise.
  • Participate in the life of the department through student advising, committee service, and shared governance.
  • Engage in ongoing scholarly, creative, and professional activity, with opportunities to contribute to the department's production season.
  • Foster an inclusive and equitable learning environment that values diversity and promotes student success.

Qualifications and Requirements

A terminal degree in an appropriate or related discipline (such as an MFA in acting, performance, or directing) is required. A current record of professional activity and demonstrable potential for successful college-level teaching within the context of an interdisciplinary and immersive liberal arts education is preferred. Special consideration will be given to applicants who possess, or are on a pathway towards, certification as an intimacy professional.

  • A commitment to teaching and mentoring students at various levels of experience.
  • A strong background in acting and intimacy coordination, with a secondary area of expertise in at least two relevant areas.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff.

  • A record of ongoing scholarly, creative, and professional activity, with a commitment to contributing to the department's production season.

Our robust production season includes plays, musicals, dance, and opera in three venues housed in the Dillingham Center for the Performing Arts.
