Key Responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate, and direct the Conservatory Creative Arts program, ensuring a high-quality experience for all campers.
- Guide and mentor campers in dance, public speaking, performance, and service learning, promoting personal growth and skill development.
- Prepare and deliver engaging lessons, re-teach skills as necessary, and review assigned homework to ensure campers' understanding and progress.
- Supervise the maintenance and daily operations of program equipment, recommending and developing activities that foster creative abilities and motor skills.
- Maintain a safe, supportive, and disciplined environment, enforcing camp rules and regulations while promoting a positive and enjoyable experience for all campers.
- Supervise and organize assigned groups of campers during scheduled and unscheduled activities, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
- Participate in and assist with various classes, performances, and events, including evening programs, special events, and overnights.
- Schedule performances, procure necessary supplies, and coordinate with other camp staff to ensure a seamless and enjoyable experience.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including ministry functions such as presenting devotional material, praying with campers, and leading Christian songs.
Essential Qualifications and Skills
To excel as a Creative Arts Instructor at Camp Grandview, you should possess:
- Knowledge and ability to teach dance, public speaking, and staging, with a passion for fostering creativity and talent in young people.
- Ability to promote teamwork, assist youth in planning and goal setting, and recruit and train volunteers to support the program.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse groups of people from various backgrounds.
- Ability to observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, and apply behavior-management techniques as needed.
- Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental hazards and other safety concerns.
- Physical ability to respond to emergencies, assist campers as needed, and demonstrate exercises and dance routines.
- CPR and First Aid certification.
- Six months of experience teaching creative arts, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
While not mandatory, the following qualifications are highly desirable:
- Experience working with children and youth in a camp or similar setting.
- Ability to perform and teach lessons in a classroom setting involving multiple students.
- Knowledge of props, costumes, and staging techniques.
