Job Summary

The Director of Facilities Services and Operations plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation and maintenance of NEC's campus facilities. Reporting to the Executive Director of Strategy and Operations, this senior leadership position is responsible for overseeing a wide range of facilities-related functions, including building operations, maintenance, and repair, as well as capital projects and sustainability initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilities Management: Supervise building operations, utilities management, facilities maintenance and repair, trades, custodial services, and engineering.
  • Capital Projects: Oversee capital projects, including schedule development, design, bidding/negotiation, and construction, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Sustainability: Develop and implement a sustainability strategy aimed at reducing energy consumption and expenditures.
  • Budget Management: Develop, manage, and control the annual facilities operating and capital budget.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Collaborate with relevant departments to implement and oversee the Conservatory's Occupational Safety and Health Programs and Environmental Protection Agency requirements.
  • Staff Management: Coordinate the selection, training, development, and evaluation of supervisors and staff in the department.
  • Communication: Ensure effective communication within the NEC community regarding maintenance, construction, and related projects.
  • On-Call Services: Manage and provide effective 24/7/365 on-call services related to all facilities issues.

Qualifications and Requirements

To be considered for this role, candidates must possess:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, Facility Management, Business Administration, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • At least eight years of relevant experience in a senior facilities management role in a complex multi-building campus setting.
  • Extensive knowledge of facilities operations, maintenance, and management.
  • Demonstrated project management skills and success in managing staff.
  • Proven ability to develop accountability systems and implement change management initiatives.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
  • Excellent oral, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize work projects and manage resources effectively.

Preferred Qualifications

While not essential, the following qualifications are highly desirable:

  • Experience in a higher education or arts institution setting.
  • Knowledge of sustainability practices and energy management.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and compliance.
  • Certifications such as IFMA or LEED AP.
