About the Role
We are looking for an exceptional candidate to expand our criminology program and contribute to the department's mission. The successful applicant will demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching, research, and student advisement, with a passion for social justice and interdisciplinary approaches. The position is scheduled to begin in August 2024, pending final budgetary approval.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach a range of courses in criminology and sociology, with a focus on corrections and quantitative research methods
- Develop and maintain a robust research program, with a focus on publishing scholarly work and presenting at conferences
- Advise and mentor undergraduate students, providing guidance on academic and career paths
- Participate in departmental and university service, including committee work and community engagement
- Foster a culture of inclusion and belonging, promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in the classroom and beyond
- Engage in ongoing professional development, staying current with best practices in teaching, research, and community engagement
Essential Qualifications
To be considered for this role, candidates must possess:
- A Ph.D. in Criminology, Sociology, Criminal Justice, or a related field (J.D. alone is not sufficient)
- Academic credentials commensurate with appointment to the rank of Assistant Professor or, in exceptional cases, Associate Professor
- Demonstrated ability to teach undergraduate quantitative research methods
- A strong commitment to teaching, research, and student advisement
- Ability to promote a culture of inclusion and belonging, with a focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion
Preferred Qualifications
While not required, the following qualifications are highly desirable:
- Teaching and research experience in corrections, criminology, or a related field
- Ability to teach a range of courses bridging criminological and sociological perspectives
- Experience with interdisciplinary approaches to teaching and research
- A strong record of scholarly publication and conference presentation
- Evidence of community engagement and service to the department and university
