Job Overview

As a Head Start Educational Support and Floating Substitute Teacher, you will be responsible for providing educational support to our students, teachers, and staff. This is a unique opportunity to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, where no two days are the same. You will be required to work across multiple locations, including Bourbonnais, Herscher, and Manteno, and be flexible in your schedule to accommodate the needs of our organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Classroom Support: Assist teachers in carrying out lesson plans, activities, and gross motor exercises, while promoting a safe and engaging learning environment.
  • STEAM/Fine Arts Responsibilities: Prepare and maintain a welcoming STEAM environment, plan and submit lesson plans, and provide students with movement activities and learning opportunities.
  • Physical Education Responsibilities: Plan and submit lesson plans that promote motor skills and regular exercise, while maintaining a neat and orderly gym environment.
  • Floating Substitute Responsibilities: Be prepared to substitute for teachers, paraprofessionals, and other staff members across multiple locations, including Bonfield, Manteno, YWCA, Proegler, Mark Twain, Steuben, and Bourbonnais.
  • Interventionist Responsibilities: Analyze student assessment data, work with preschoolers using appropriate instructional strategies, and document progress.

Essential Qualifications

  • AA Degree in Child Development or a related field, or AA with ECE Level 4, or BA in a related field with ECE Level 4.
  • ISBE Substitute Certificate required for Floating Substitute role.
  • Experience working with children in an educational setting is preferred.
  • CPI, CPR, First Aid, Pyramid Training, Theraplay Training, and Gateway Registry certifications are required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working in a Head Start program or similar early childhood education setting.
  • Knowledge of STEAM education principles and practices.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
