Job Summary: High School English Language Arts Teacher
We're looking for a dynamic High School English Language Arts Teacher who is passionate about creating engaging and rigorous learning experiences for our students. As a key member of our teaching staff, you'll be responsible for planning and delivering high-quality lessons that prepare students for success in the NYS Regents Exams, Advanced Placement, and collegiate-level coursework.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan units based on the NYS Next Generation Standards in English Language Arts, creating academically rigorous and culturally relevant lesson plans, materials, and assessments.
- Teach engaging lessons that are differentiated to meet students' needs, using various teaching strategies and integrating technology into the classroom.
- Focus on the integration of 21st-century literacy skills to help students become proficient readers, writers, and public speakers.
- Use targeted intervention strategies in small groups and whole-class instruction to support student learning.
- Develop and administer formative and summative assessments, regularly analyzing student comprehension and essay writing skills.
- Analyze and use assessment data to refine instructional practices and close the achievement gap for all students.
- Monitor student behavior and academic progress, reporting student progress to parents and family members using online resources, report cards, and progress reports.
- Reflect on lessons, student data, and current educational trends to improve practice and student outcomes.
- Participate in ongoing professional learning, mentorship, coaching, and staff development, sharing best practices with colleagues and other members of the staff.
- Help to foster the school's culture of family, inclusion, and a love of learning, building positive relationships with students, parents, and the school staff.
Qualifications and Requirements:
To be successful in this role, you'll need:
- A Bachelor's degree; a Master's degree is preferred.
- Prior satisfactory teaching experience is preferred.
- New York State Teaching Certification in English Language Arts (grades 7-12), Library Media Specialist, or Literacy (5-12).
- Dual certification in English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) or Students with Disabilities is a plus.
- Professionalism, superb written and verbal communication skills, excellent organizational skills, and timeliness.
- NYS Dept of Education fingerprint clearance and criminal background checks.
