We're seeking a dedicated and experienced High School English Teacher to join our community of talented educators.

Key Responsibilities

  • Instructional Duties:
    • Takes ownership of students' academic progress and attendance, communicating high expectations and showing active interest in students' achievement.
    • Prepares students for high-stakes standardized tests.
    • Conducts live synchronous teaching for a minimum of 15 hours per week.
    • Asynchronously supports objectives, including composing/sending emails, planning course objectives, and using data to determine student needs.
    • Collaborates with local/regional/national teams and teacher trainers regarding instruction, resources, and data-driven decision-making.
  • Relationship Building:
    • Establishes and maintains positive rapport with families and regularly communicates with students and learning coaches/parents.
    • Supports learning coaches/parents with student curricular and instructional issues in a virtual classroom environment.
    • Works collaboratively with other teachers to ensure students are successfully progressing through the program.
  • Other Essential Functions:
    • Organizes social and educational activities for students and families, including sponsorship of virtual clubs and outings.
    • Travels occasionally (approximately 10% of the time) to testing sites to proctor state exams and participate in professional development.

Qualifications and Requirements

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Six (6) months of student teaching experience.
  • Meets requirements for Highly Qualified Teacher (HQT) in subject area under No Child Left Behind (NCLB).
  • Appropriate state teaching certification with a High School English endorsement.
  • Must be an Indiana resident.
  • Pedagogical knowledge of content being taught and ability to apply critical thinking.
  • Ability to work independently, typically 40+ hours per week, and maintain a professional home office without distraction.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with the proposed age group (high school students).
  • Experience supporting adults and children in the use of technology.
  • Experience working in a virtual environment or teaching in an online setting.
  • Familiarity with online platforms such as Blackboard Collaborative or Newrow.

Work Environment

This is a home-based position, requiring a professional home office setup and reliable high-speed internet. Occasional travel (about 10% of the time) is required for face-to-face professional development, student testing, and other school-related activities.
