Role Overview

As a Patient Access Representative 1, you will serve as a Patient Advocate and Service Ambassador, providing a favorable first impression and proactive attention to internal and external customers. Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Performing on-site patient access registration related functions promptly, without compromising patient safety, quality, service levels, and reimbursement.
  • Identifying and collecting patients' self-pay responsibility, including co-pays, deductibles, co-insurances, self-pay discount rates, global packages, and previous outstanding balances.
  • Complying with all established UHealth policies and procedures related to Patient Access and State/Federal regulations.
  • Providing excellent customer service, addressing concerns, and optimizing patient experience.
  • Working effectively with physicians, co-workers, other departments, and patients of all ages and backgrounds.
  • Performing other duties as assigned based on departmental needs.

Key Qualifications and Skills

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills in English.
  • Critical thinking, analytical, troubleshooting, problem resolution, and customer service skills.
  • Mathematical and cash management skills.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology (preferred).
  • Ability to work as an integral team member under minimal supervision, in a fast-paced, complex, and highly stressful environment.
  • Computer literacy and ability to use multiple systems, including UChart, Cadence/Prelude/Enterprise Billing, Passport HealthWorks Compliance Checker, Availity, RIS-PACS, CaneCare, UMCare, Intellidose, MCSL, Experian, and online verification systems used by contracted payors.

Essential and Preferred Requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A High School Diploma (required) or Bachelor's degree (preferred).
  • One (1) year of customer service experience (required), preferably in a healthcare-related setting.
  • Bilingual skills (English/Spanish, English/Creole, English/French, English/Arabic) are a plus.
  • Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.
