Key Responsibilities

  • Classroom Management & Instruction: Provide direct instructional services to students in designated areas, including language, speech, audition, and academic curriculum. Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that cater to the diverse needs of your students.
  • Collaboration & Consultation: Serve as a consultant to regular school staff, sharing your specialized expertise to ensure the special needs of students are met. Participate in meetings to plan instructional and behavioral goals, and develop effective methods of instruction.
  • Assessment & Reporting: Conduct educational diagnostic services under the supervision of the School Coordinator. Prepare regular and special reports on student progress and behavior for parents, adhering to program policies.
  • Parent Support & Engagement: Offer appropriate supportive services to parents, enhancing their ability to support their child's educational journey. Foster a positive and collaborative relationship with families.
  • Classroom Environment: Create a conducive learning environment that promotes effective learning within the resources provided. Encourage students to develop independence and responsibility.
  • Professional Development: Stay updated with the latest teaching technologies and methodologies. Participate in school activities and maintain current knowledge of the program's mission, goals, and strategic plan.

Essential Qualifications & Skills

To excel in this role, you must possess:

  • A genuine interest in serving the needs of students with hearing impairments.
  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
  • Willingness to obtain and maintain LSLS Cert. AVEd.
  • Previous experience in deaf education is highly preferable.
  • Ability to work on a regular and predictable schedule.
  • Strong theoretical knowledge of curriculum techniques and intervention strategies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to relate well to students, parents, and staff.

Preferred Skills & Competencies

  • Experience with child-centered educational approaches.
  • Knowledge of current technologies used in deaf education, such as Smartboards.
  • Ability to participate in physical labor as required (e.g., lifting more than 15 lbs., assisting students).
  • A positive attitude and evidence of good moral character.

Compensation & Benefits
