Role Overview
We're seeking an experienced Data Engineer III to join our Marketplace Strategy and Analytics team. As a Data Engineer III, you'll play a crucial role in shaping the future of shopping by using cutting-edge data engineering techniques to create critical datasets and unlock the power of data science. You'll work with a talented team of data scientists, analysts, and engineers to solve complex and exciting challenges, and you'll have the opportunity to make a real impact on our customers' lives.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to the development of an orchestration layer of complex data transformations, refining raw data from source into targeted, valuable data assets for consumption in a governed way
- Partner with Data Scientists, Analysts, other engineers, and business stakeholders to solve complex and exciting challenges and build out capabilities that evolve the marketplace business model
- Use cutting-edge data engineering techniques to create critical datasets and unlock the power of data science
- Develop and maintain data pipelines that our Data Scientists and Analysts can rely on
- Write code to develop the required solution and application features, determining the appropriate programming language and leveraging business, technical, and data requirements
- Create test cases to review and validate the proposed solution design, test the code using the appropriate testing approach, and deploy software to production servers
Essential Qualifications
- 3+ years' experience in data engineering and analytics using Big Data Platforms like Spark, Hadoop, BigQuery
- Experience creating real-time data streaming and processing using Kafka and/or Spark streaming
- Demonstrated expertise in writing complex, highly optimized queries across large data sets
- Strong programming skills in SQL, Java/Python/Scala
- Experience developing data pipelines with Apache Airflow
- Demonstrated experience with public cloud platforms like Azure or Google
- Experience with distributed SQL query engines like Presto
- Experience with Relational Database platforms (e.g., SQL Server, MySQL, Informix, Oracle, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with data governance and data strategy
- Knowledge of current data science and analytics trends
- Experience with data modeling, including conceptual, physical, and logical data models
- Experience with code development and testing, including writing code, creating test cases, and deploying software to production servers
- Experience working in a team environment and collaborating with cross-functional teams
