Experienced Patient Care Technician - PCT Wanted for Immediate Hiring in Scotland to Provide High-Quality Hemodialysis Care and Support to Patients

Job Overview
As a Patient Care Technician - PCT, you will be responsible for supporting the hemodialysis healthcare team in providing safe and effective dialysis therapy to patients. You will work under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse, adhering to FMCNA policies, procedures, and training, as well as regulatory requirements set forth by the corporation, state, and federal agencies. Your primary responsibilities will include setting up and operating hemodialysis machines, assisting with patient care and education, and maintaining a safe and clean working environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with patient care and education, including providing detailed information about adequacy measures, disease process, and access
- Evaluate vascular access for patency and report any unusual findings to the nurse supervisor
- Obtain necessary pre and post-treatment vital signs and weight, and report any unusual findings to the nurse supervisor
- Perform vascular access cannulation and administration of Heparin as delegated or allowed by state law
- Initiate dialysis treatment according to prescribed orders, including blood flow and dialysate flow
- Monitor patients' response to dialysis therapy and report any unusual findings to the nurse supervisor
- Discontinue dialysis treatment according to established procedures and evaluate patient prior to termination of venous access
- Perform and record pre and post-dialysis evaluation, weight, and vital signs with initial identification
- Calculate and enter individual patients' dialysis machine programming for Ultrafiltration goal, treatment time, Sodium modeling, and UF modeling as prescribed
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient treatment, including completion of Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet and progress notes
Essential Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following essential qualifications:
- CMS-approved state and/or national certification or High School diploma or G.E.D. and must meet certification requirements within the required state or CMS timeline
- Previous patient care experience in a hospital setting or related facility preferred
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks and responsibilities
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with patients, families, and healthcare teams
- Basic computer skills and proficiency in electronic medical records
Preferred Qualifications
While not essential, the following qualifications are preferred:
- Experience working in a dialysis or renal care setting
- CPR certification
- Phlebotomy certification or experience with blood draws
- Ability to speak multiple languages
