Job Summary

The Manager, Data Analytics will serve as a key partner to cross-functional teams, providing data-driven insights and recommendations to inform business decisions across the DMG business units. You will be responsible for developing and maintaining a deep understanding of customer behaviors and preferences within music marketing, discovery, and consumption channels. With a strong foundation in statistics, mathematics, and data analysis, you will drive business outcomes through the analysis of large-scale datasets, development of statistical models, and creation of data visualizations to communicate complex insights to stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive business growth and inform strategic decisions through data-driven insights and analysis, leveraging expertise in data analysis, statistical modeling, and data visualization
  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of customer behaviors and preferences within music marketing, discovery, and consumption channels
  • Build and apply segmentation, regression, and classification models to extract insights from large-scale datasets
  • Contribute to strategic initiatives and new business opportunities by developing analytical models and frameworks to understand potential, performance drivers, and impact of external factors
  • Support data-informed business strategies by applying data mining, quantitative analysis, and data modeling to surface and elevate key themes, answering business questions across diverse business units
  • Extract and develop data for analysis, obtaining, organizing, purifying, and manipulating complex, large-scale data from multiple disparate sources using tools such as PySpark and advanced SQL
  • Apply supervised or unsupervised learning techniques, such as linear and logistic regression, decision trees, or k-means clustering, to infer, validate, and evaluate conclusions from the data
  • Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to identify opportunities and understand performance, diving into data to drive meaningful and actionable insights
  • Contribute to organizational needs through ongoing reporting and analysis to inform business, product, marketing, and sales decisions
  • Lead content performance and audience analysis for product releases, developing and tracking key metrics to measure success
  • Perform statistical analysis, such as KPI deep dives, behavioral clustering, and customer journey analysis, and develop scientific pipelines for automated, scalable, repeatable, and integrated analysis using current big data models in data environments such as Databricks, Snowflake, and Google BigQuery
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Product teams to execute on data projects, contributing to data discovery, design, build, and QA process, and working on data models, database design/table, ETL/ELT data pipelines, and validation parameters
  • Lead and mentor a colleague, establishing boundaries to maximize impact in the organization

Essential Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field, including Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, Engineering, or other related fields
  • At least 3 years of experience in data analysis, with a strong foundation in statistical modeling, data visualization, and data mining
  • Experience developing statistical models and analyses in an industry setting for business use cases, with applied knowledge of supervised and unsupervised learning techniques
  • Strong hands-on experience manipulating large-scale datasets and interpreting data patterns from various disparate data sources
  • Proficiency in advanced SQL, large-scale data, and mathematical computing languages (PySpark)
  • Experience with data mining in distributed systems (Hadoop/Databricks)
  • Proficiency in data analysis and visualization tools (Tableau/Looker)
  • Experience developing analytical software that scales analyses
  • Experience working with media performance data
  • Experience working with data in the entertainment industry
  • Strong experience documenting data requirements, rules, and assumptions
  • Experience communicating technical concepts to multiple audiences
  • A passion for building clear, concise, and meaningful metrics
  • A proven track record of using data to drive business value and presenting data-driven insights to business stakeholders
  • Experience influencing and collaborating with stakeholders across the organization
  • Strong time management skills, with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment across multiple priorities
  • Strong attention to detail, without losing sight of broader goals
  • A history of working independently, demonstrating creativity, and delivering results
  • A strong interest in music and the music industry
  • Experience with music streaming services (Spotify, Apple, Amazon Music, YouTube), social media platforms (TikTok, FB/Instagram), and emerging technologies (digital assistants/voice)

Preferred Qualifications

While not required, the following qualifications are preferred:

  • Experience leading data-driven projects across a broad cross-functional landscape
  • Experience building, managing, and inspiring teams in critical support functions
  • A graduate degree in a quantitative field, including Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, Engineering, or other related fields
