Join The Home Depot's Learning Design & Development Team as an Instructional Designer

To achieve this, we're seeking a talented Instructional Designer to join our Learning Design & Development team. As an Instructional Designer, you'll play a crucial role in designing, developing, and implementing cutting-edge workshop programs that build competence and confidence in our associates and customers.

About The Home Depot and the Learning Design & Development Team

The Home Depot is a leading home improvement retailer, dedicated to providing excellent customer service and helping our customers get more done. Our Learning Design & Development team is responsible for creating simple, relevant, and effective learning experiences for our learners, with a focus on customer workshops. We're a dynamic, collaborative team that creates learning solutions to build knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • 60%: Create learning objectives, design documents, storyboards, and other learning design deliverables. Develop learning solutions using project-based templates. Test and debug deliverables for quality assurance. Ensure learning solutions align with desired outcomes.
  • 10%: Partner with Learning Strategy Senior Managers on confirming needs analysis and instructional strategy.
  • 10%: Utilize standard eLearning development tools and software (Articulate Storyline and Presenter, Adobe Captivate).
  • 10%: Proactively communicate task and project status to client group and management.
  • 10%: Assist in the interviewing, selection, and onboarding of contractors and associates.

Essential Qualifications and Skills

To succeed in this role, you'll need:

  • A strong background in applying instructional design and adult learning principles to create instructional courses, assessments, job aids, and other learning deliverables.
  • Experience with creating deliverables for all phases of the course creation lifecycle, including analysis, design, and development.
  • Proficiency with software including Microsoft Office and standard eLearning development tools (Articulate Storyline/Rise, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • The ability to work independently and be detail-oriented in the development and QA of project work.
  • A self-driven, collaborative, and resourceful approach to project management.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

To stand out as a candidate, you'll ideally have:

  • A Master's or Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, HR Development, Organizational Development, I/O Psychology, or a related field.
  • Experience in education or the learning field, or similar work experience.
  • Experience with Agile Learning Development or the Successive Approximation Model (SAM).
  • Experience creating training deliverables for retail organizations.
  • Experience conducting learning needs analysis.
  • Intermediate knowledge of eLearning development tools and software.
  • Strong ability to communicate professionally and tailor messages to a variety of audiences.
