This is a remote opportunity, allowing you to work from anywhere in the NYC Metropolitan Area or Tennessee. The ideal candidate will have 5-7+ years of experience in commercial contracts, with a background in audiobooks, publishing, or media.
Key Responsibilities
- Commercial Contract Drafting and Negotiation: Utilize your extensive experience in drafting and negotiating commercial contracts, including software licenses, web-based services, and other technology-related agreements.
- Risk Management: Identify risk issues related to commercial agreements and provide practical, responsive advice to facilitate timely resolution, balancing commercial imperatives with the protection of the company's long-term risk profile.
- Communication and Collaboration: Leverage excellent interpersonal, presentation, written, and verbal communication skills to articulate and defend company positions effectively, prepare clear and efficient redlines, and bring agreements to closure.
- Strategic Partnership: Anticipate and respond to problems as a strategic partner, providing innovative legal solutions to support sales and other business teams, including shared services groups based in different regions globally.
- Contract Review and Management: Manage multiple negotiations and the contract review pipeline, effectively prioritizing issue escalation and resolution, as well as managing numerous complex projects simultaneously under tight deadline pressure.
Essential Qualifications
- Juris Doctor Degree: A Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school is required.
- Bar Membership: Membership in good standing of a state bar association as an attorney qualified to practice law in that state is necessary. New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, or Tennessee bar membership is preferred.
- Commercial Contracts Experience: A minimum of 5 years of legal experience as in-house counsel or related law firm practice, with strong experience drafting and negotiating commercial contracts and corporate transactions.
- Excellent Judgment and Business Acumen: Demonstrated excellent judgment and business acumen, with the ability to balance legal risks with commercial goals.
Preferred Qualifications
- Industry Experience: Experience in media, publishing, audio, distribution, or languages/education is ideal.
- Pimsleur Experience: Experience working with Pimsleur is a plus.
