Mount Holyoke College, a leading gender-diverse women's college, is seeking an experienced Access Services Evening Associate to join its Library, Information, and Technology Services (LITS) Division. As a member of the Access Services department within Discovery & Access (DnA), this role plays a critical part in connecting the Mount Holyoke community to a wide range of information resources, both virtually and in the library.

The Access Services Evening Associate will be a key member of the team, providing excellent customer service, managing library public services, course reserves, and billing operations, and contributing to the College's diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Works at the on-site Circulation Desk approximately 15 hours per week, providing excellent customer service, responding to questions in person and virtually, and serving as shift lead.
  • Performs shared Access Services responsibilities, including checking library materials in and out, responding to patron inquiries, registering new patrons, processing requests for library materials, running reports using library system software, maintaining assigned stacks floors, and collecting circulation statistics.
  • Oversees approximately 15 student workers during Circulation Desk shifts and assists with training and evaluation.
  • Manages library bills and fines, including processing bills, transmitting bills to the College's Financial Services department and the Five College libraries, responding to patron billing questions, and convening/facilitating meetings of the LITS Fine Appeals Committee.
  • Administers the library's course reserves software, processes physical materials for reserve, creates digital files from a variety of source materials, collaborates with 5C colleagues to facilitate consortial loans of materials needed for course reserves, and communicates with faculty regarding the status of their course reserve requests.
  • Assists with pre-order, receipt, and copy cataloging workflows for physical and ebook reserves purchases and participates in LITS, College, and Five College committees.
  • Contributes to a continuous process of assessment to ensure DnA's success in advancing the College's evolving goals and seeks to improve library services, incorporating an understanding of the needs of structurally disadvantaged groups.

Essential Qualifications

  • Two years of experience working in a customer-service role in a user-focused organization.
  • Enthusiastic customer service orientation with a record of progressively-responsible experience related to duties and responsibilities of the position.
  • Ability to work as a team member and independently in the weekend/evening environment.
  • Evidence of supervisory potential.
  • Basic knowledge of general office procedures and accounting principles, with advanced Excel skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Flexibility to accept, manage, and incorporate change and the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously.
  • Creativity and a passion for supporting a collaborative work environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse group of faculty, students, administrators, staff, and others.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in an academic library or similar environment.
  • Knowledge of library software systems, including course reserves and billing systems.
  • Supervisory experience, particularly in a library or academic setting.
