About the Role
The Packaging Strategy Lead will be responsible for building foundational data requirements, taxonomy structures, and specifications to support packaging design optimization and sustainability efforts across all Owned Brand businesses. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders, including sourcing, design, store operations, marketing, supply chain, properties, and compliance program owners, to establish relevant data requirements and flexible guidelines that consistently reflect Target's commitment to safety, reliability, cost-effectiveness, and performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and Manage Data Requirements: Create and maintain data requirements, taxonomy structures, and specifications to support packaging design optimization and sustainability initiatives.
- Collaborate with Stakeholders: Engage with various stakeholders to establish data requirements and guidelines that align with Target's values and goals.
- Change Management: Develop and manage change processes to ensure accurate packaging document management portfolios across multiple systems and partner teams.
- Training and Enablement: Create, manage, and execute training and enablement programs to drive understanding of standards, specifications, and data accuracy best practices.
- Data Analysis and Insights: Evaluate data requirements, standards, and specifications to advance safe, reliable, and cost-effective solutions that align with industry standards and enhance engineering practices.
- Support and Guidance: Provide support and guidance to cross-functional teams and colleagues to ensure proper interpretation and implementation of packaging data requirements, standards, and specifications.
- Regulatory Compliance: Consult with internal regulatory and compliance experts to identify impacts on current data requirements and standards, taking action to mitigate risks and identify opportunities for compliance.
- Global Collaboration: Work with cross-functional global partners to drive effective communication and roadshows around stated goal advancement, compliance, and data accuracy best practice requirements and expectations.
- Data-Driven Insights: Utilize data to identify trends or issues, in partnership with technology teams, to measure the effectiveness of training delivered and communications sent.
- Industry Trend Analysis: Research industry trends and assess Target's corresponding data and standards practices, sharing insights and recommendations with the appropriate audience for change and compliance.
- Leadership and Team Management: Provide leadership and guidance to others, driving effectiveness and efficiency in team results.
- Foster a Positive Team Culture: Create and maintain a positive team culture by exhibiting behaviors consistent with Target's values of Inclusivity, Connection, and Drive; ensure ongoing, effective communications to the team, and support individualized development by offering regular performance feedback, coaching, recognition, and evaluation.
About You
To be successful in this role, you should possess:
- A 4-year degree or equivalent experience
- 4+ years of experience creating and managing documentation and standards projects, preferably in packaging design and development
- The ability to influence without authority, manage projects, work with groups, resolve conflict, build consensus, establish rapport, and collaborate effectively, both internally and externally, across all levels of an organization
- Experience with documentation best practices, technical writing, and reporting
- Skilled at creating and advising on content, structure, and delivery of effective training programs, roadshows, and communications
- Experience leading teams or projects, driving collaboration, empowerment, and teamwork
- Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, creative thinking, and analytical skills
- Related knowledge with packaging or consumer products manufacturing preferred
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
- Adaptability and resilience; comfortable working in uncertain and constantly changing environments
- The ability to prioritize, manage multiple tasks, and work independently in a fast-paced environment
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel), Visio applications
