Key Responsibilities
As a Counsel at GEICO, your primary responsibilities will include:
- Researching laws and preparing legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda to support case defense
- Rendering opinions on liability, damages, and value as requested by the Claims Department
- Preparing and handling pleadings, motions, and discovery, including depositions/examinations before trial and examinations under oath
- Defending cases by trial or dispositive hearing, as applicable
- Collaborating with the Claims Department and other stakeholders to ensure effective case management
- Staying up-to-date with changes in laws, regulations, and industry developments to maintain expertise
Qualifications and Requirements
To be considered for this role, you must possess the following essential qualifications:
- 7-9+ years of experience in a related field, preferably in civil litigation or insurance defense
- Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school
- Admission to the California Bar and licensure to practice law in California
- Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with clients, colleagues, and other stakeholders
- Ability to travel as required, including attending trials, hearings, depositions, and conferences
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple cases simultaneously
Preferred Qualifications
While not required, the following qualifications are preferred:
- Civil litigation experience, particularly in insurance defense
- Experience with trial work, including preparing and defending cases by trial or dispositive hearing
- Strong technical skills, including proficiency in legal research software and databases
- Ability to communicate effectively in a professional manner, both in person and in writing

Compensation and Benefits
GEICO offers a competitive salary range of $124,000.00 - $205,000.00 per year, depending on experience and qualifications. In addition to a competitive salary, we offer a range of benefits, including:
