Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Credit Balance Clerk to review and analyze accounts, work queues, and/or reports to identify and resolve unapplied credits and credit balances issued by insurance companies or patients. This role is crucial in resolving credits and initiating takebacks and/or refunds, ensuring that our revenue cycle management is efficient and effective. As a Credit Balance Clerk, you will enjoy the flexibility to telecommute from anywhere within the U.S. and take on challenging tasks while working with a talented team of professionals.
Primary Responsibilities
- Apply knowledge and skills to basic, repeated activities, demonstrating a minimum depth of knowledge and skills in your function
- Respond to standard requests and require assistance in responding to non-standard requests
- Solve routine problems by following established procedures, with others prioritizing and setting deadlines for you
- Review accounts, including Explanation of Benefits (EOB)/Electronic Remittance Advice (ERAs), payments, adjustments, validate patient payments, validate coordination of benefits, and all account comments
- Contact and communicate with insurance companies to gather additional information, as necessary, to ensure that credits are accurate
- Refund overpayments or initiate takeback requests on accounts, conducting appropriate reviews to accurately transfer payments in accordance with established procedures
- Meet quality assurance and productivity standards through identification, reconciliation of credit balance accounts, and/or review of credit balance reports for potential overpayments in accordance with organizational policies and procedures
- Work with others as part of a team, proficient in 10-key and alpha/numeric data entry
Required Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- High School Diploma/GED (or higher) OR 4+ years of experience in revenue cycle and health/medical billing and collections
- 2+ years of experience in revenue cycle credit balance and health/medical billing and collections
- 1+ year of experience in Epic
- Intermediate level of proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel
