Job Summary
The Equipment Operator II is responsible for operating medium to heavy equipment necessary for the maintenance, repair, and upkeep of city facilities. This includes operating specialized equipment, machinery, or vehicles, such as heavy construction vehicles, pressure sprayers, paving equipment, backhoes, sweepers, tractors, and other specialized airfield equipment. The successful candidate will work under direct supervision, performing routine maintenance procedures and ensuring the safe operation of equipment and machinery.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate medium to heavy equipment, including heavy construction vehicles, pressure sprayers, paving equipment, backhoes, sweepers, tractors, and other specialized airfield equipment
- Perform routine maintenance procedures, including inspecting equipment, performing preventative maintenance, and making minor repairs
- Remove debris, litter, earth, or pavement; load material into trucks; locate and excavate underground structures or pipelines; set poles; clear land or mow grassy areas
- Install and maintain new structures, equipment, or parts, such as fences, airfield signs and lights, pipes, fittings, meters, and hydrants
- Assemble and load equipment, tools, materials, and supplies according to daily work assignments
- Follow established safety rules and regulations for the safe operation of equipment and machinery, reporting accidents, equipment breakage, and unsafe conditions to a supervisor
- Complete routine forms or reports, and communicate effectively with air traffic control, pilots, and others involved in preparing an aircraft for flight and operating an aircraft in flight
Essential Qualifications
- High school graduation or GED plus one year of experience operating medium to heavy equipment
- Valid Texas Driver's License required; CDL Class B license preferred
- Ability to pass a personal, criminal, and employment background check
- Obtain and maintain US Customs and Border Protection Clearance
