About the Role: Excess & Surplus Lines Underwriter

We are seeking highly experienced Excess & Surplus Lines Underwriters to work with our clients in commercial lines underwriting positions. This is an exceptional opportunity for those with a strong background in property and casualty insurance to continue their career from the comfort of their own home. Our ideal candidate will have extensive experience in underwriting commercial lines, including but not limited to package, mono and/or multi-line, umbrella, transportation, habitational, and large property, as well as experience with surplus lines tax filings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough and accurate risk selection with proper classification of insureds, ensuring that all underwriting decisions are well-informed and aligned with company standards.
  • Make critical underwriting decisions regarding risk acceptability, coverage alternatives, and pricing, demonstrating a deep understanding of the excess and surplus lines market and its complexities.
  • Rate, quote, and bind risks based on acceptability, coverage, and pricing of middle and/or large or complex renewals and new business, utilizing your expertise to drive business growth while managing risk effectively.
  • Submit underwriting referrals to company brokerage facilities as necessary, ensuring seamless communication and collaboration with internal stakeholders.
  • Manage a portfolio of renewal business with a focus on book management, identifying opportunities for growth and retention while maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction.
  • Develop and maintain superior relationships with producers, brokers, and reinsurers, leveraging your professional network to drive business outcomes and stay abreast of industry trends.
  • Utilize your binding underwriting experience to make informed decisions and drive business results, with a current high demand for this skill set in our client base.

Qualifications and Requirements

To be considered for this exciting opportunity, you should have:

  • 25 years of full-time work experience, with a significant portion of that time spent in the insurance industry.
  • 10 most current years of commercial lines property & casualty insurance experience, with a focus on excess and surplus lines underwriting.
  • A strong understanding of property and casualty insurance principles, including risk assessment, policy coverage, and pricing strategies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with clients, producers, and other stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in underwriting software and systems, with the ability to learn new technologies and adapt to our remote work environment.
  • A property and casualty license is preferred but not required, as we are looking for candidates with a deep understanding of the industry and its regulatory requirements.
