Are you a motivated and creative multimedia journalist with a passion for storytelling and online content creation? KQED, a leading public media organization in Northern California, is seeking a part-time digital producer to join our team on weekends. As a digital producer, you will play a critical role in creating and packaging daily news items, feature stories, and original content for KQED.org and our social media channels.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and aggregate compelling multimedia content on a daily basis that informs and engages our audience, including online pieces, photo essays, native social media stories, audio/video, editorial stories, and features.
  • Serve as support for content supplied by staff and freelance contributors, including writing headlines and text, editing and adding photos, audio and video, copyediting, publishing, and fact-checking online content.
  • Gather audio/video in the field for digital/radio broadcast reporting.
  • Develop strong working relationships with relevant KQED News editorial staff and actively participate in creating online elements for special features or packages.
  • Act as a source of ideas for new products, services, and features for the desktop site and mobile experiences.
  • Provide fill-in support when needed for other digital producers, including overseeing KQED News social media accounts, daily stories, and their publication schedules on the News blogs.
  • Provide periodic edit support to Digital News Staff for text stories and online packages.
  • Utilize SEO best practices to optimize online content.
  • Provide daily/weekly content suggestions to news editor/teammates.
  • Work with internal staff to improve the organization's skills for creating interactive content.
  • Assist in managing online interns.
  • Identify and track key metrics to help evaluate the traffic growth and usage of specific sections of KQED News.
  • Assist in oversight of user-generated content and communities, including online stories, comments, and other opportunities for KQED News visitors to share their views and content.

Essential Qualifications

  • Several years of experience reporting or primary news reporting experience.
  • At least three years of experience working as an online community manager or maintaining a blog or website.
  • Knowledge and practices of social media sites, including Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and Twitter.
  • Well-informed in a wide range of areas, including current events, arts, culture, film, history, science, and public policy.
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain a wide-range of partnerships.
  • Knowledge and experience maintaining databases.
  • Experience working with different types of digital media content, including audio and video, with the ability to perform simple HTML programming and coding.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Wide knowledge of Bay Area people, places, partners, and events.
  • Experience with SEO best practices and analytics tools.
  • Familiarity with content management systems and digital media production software.
