As an Academic Instructor, you will play a critical role in providing academic instruction to students in English Language Learning (ELL) and Reading, and contributing to the overall success of our center.

Job Summary

The Academic Instructor - ELL/Reading will report to the Academic Manager and be responsible for providing high-quality academic instruction to students in ELL and Reading. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in teaching, excellent communication skills, and the ability to motivate and support students in achieving their academic goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide students with basic direction, instruction, and assistance in designated areas of ELL and Reading instruction
  • Motivate and counsel students in areas of behavior, training, personal problems, or study habits, and coordinate with counselors and staff as necessary to resolve issues affecting student training
  • Develop and prepare lessons in accordance with approved curriculum guidelines, and recommend curricula changes and supplemental materials
  • Maintain a clean and organized training environment that is conducive to learning
  • Participate on student assessment panels, prepare required documentation and evaluations, and administer and correct tests
  • Maintain progress and attendance reports, including required CIS updates
  • Control the use of equipment and supplies, and recommend purchases as needed
  • Develop and conduct enrichment programs as assigned
  • Utilize workplace language and behavior expectations in the classroom, and relate academic skills to career training and workplace requirements
  • Participate in student behavior management programs and assist in developing community linkages and volunteers for academic training/tutoring
  • Participate in student employability programs and activities

Education and Experience Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
  • A valid teaching certificate in the state of Hawaii or passing scores on the PRAXIS exams
  • At least one year of related experience in teaching or a related field
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Computer proficiency and experience with online teaching platforms (preferred)
  • A valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record

Compensation and Benefits

The expected salary for this role is $46,500 per year. We offer a comprehensive benefits package, including:
