Job Summary
As an Assistant Principal - 11 Month, you will work closely with the Principal to oversee the daily operations of our school. You will be responsible for a range of leadership tasks, including organizational management, communications management, personnel management, student management, instructional management, services management, properties management, and district-wide obligations. Key Responsibilities
- Organizational Management:
- Assist the Principal in maintaining records to measure student progress.
- Implement policies, rules, and regulations of the district.
- Implement the negotiated contract between the district and teachers.
- Scheduling classes.
- Communications Management:
- Communicate with staff through staff meetings, handbooks, and other written or verbal communication as appropriate.
- Cooperate with parent-teacher associations and parent groups.
- Communicate with parents and guardians.
- Personnel Management:
- Supervise all personnel and the operation of the school to ensure maximum efficiency.
- Conduct interviews and recommend employment for prospective applicants for vacancies.
- Orient new employees to building routines and procedures.
- Perform evaluations of certified and non-certified staff pursuant to the district evaluation plans.
- Assign and assist substitute teachers and paraprofessionals to provide the most effective programs possible.
- Student Management:
- Register all children and assign them to classes.
- Establish guidelines for proper student conduct and maintain student discipline in coordination with the district policy and procedures for student discipline.
- Supervise extra-curricular activities.
- Instructional Management:
- Provide leadership for the building by implementing state standards and school improvement plans.
- Maintain building-level committees to improve instruction.
- Review student data and adjust instructional methods and contents accordingly to meet ESSA requirements.
- Services Management:
- File reports of all serious accidents with the Assistant Superintendent of Operations or the Chief Financial Officer.
- Follow district policy and Illinois law when excluding students from school due to a chronic or communicable infectious disease.
- Properties Management:
- Conduct fire and storm drills as required by the Illinois School Code, Board Policy, and Administrative Procedures.
- Provide a safe building for students and staff.
- Comply with Life/Safety requirements.
- District-Wide Obligations:
- Serve on district committees.
- Participate in district-wide principal meetings and other meetings as required or appropriate.
- Special Education:
- Coordinate special education services, including referrals, testing, IEP meetings, and provision of services.
- Notify the Director of Special Education or his/her designee of any concerns regarding services provided to students.
- Financial/Business Management:
- Prepare budget requisitions and compile them for approval by the Board.
- Maintain adequate inventory records.
- Supervise the custody of all monies collected (book rent, gym rent, cafeteria, etc.).
Qualifications
- General Administrative Endorsement required.
- LBS-1 Endorsement preferred.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with staff, parents, and students.
- Familiarity with educational laws, regulations, and best practices.
