As a Before and After School Instructor, you will play a vital role in guiding elementary-age participants through sports, arts, STEM, and other hands-on learning activities in a safe and caring environment.

Job Summary

We're looking for a highly motivated and experienced Before and After School Instructor to work at Sunrise Elementary in Bothell, WA. As a Before and After School Instructor, you will be responsible for implementing culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate activities within the curriculum, supervising a group of children, and providing guidance to staff and volunteers. You'll also be responsible for communicating with parents and guardians, following YMCA policies and procedures, and maintaining a clean and safe environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate activities within the curriculum in accordance with the Youth Development goals of the YMCA.
  • Supervise a group of children to ensure their health and safety and provide a positive experience for each child.
  • Provide guidance to staff and volunteers overseeing the activities of groups of children.
  • Professionally communicate day-to-day, confidential, and evaluative information with parents and guardians.
  • Follow YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergency procedures.
  • Assist in maintaining a developmentally appropriate site, including appearance, decor, and cleanliness.
  • Prepare and serve snacks, and clean the snack area.
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings as required.

Requirements:

Essential Qualifications:

  • 18 years of age or older.
  • 1-2 years of experience working with children in camps, childcare, tutoring, or nannying.
  • Ability to model and demonstrate Y values: caring, respect, responsibility, and honesty.
  • Experience planning and implementing group activities.
  • TB Test by Mantoux method.
  • Completion of minimum STARS required training, CPR/First Aid Training.
  • Cleared Portable Background Check in the statewide registry MERIT.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of and previous experience with diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.).
  • Ability to speak any language in addition to English.
  • High school diploma or the equivalent.
