Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting Instruction: Facilitate and/or monitor small group and one-on-one instruction to present, guide, and reinforce skills, concepts, and strategies, employing a variety of instructional and motivational techniques to encourage student learning and achievement.
  • Maintaining Confidentiality: Maintain confidentiality regarding all aspects of work with students and other staff, upholding the trust and integrity required of the role.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain and update records of student progress, attendance, test scores, and/or personal information as requested, ensuring accurate and timely documentation.
  • Preparing Instructional Materials: Prepare instructional materials for use in class or "pull-out" small groups, and prepare supplies, materials, and equipment for lessons, contributing to a well-organized and effective learning environment.
  • Professional Development: Participate in all meetings and professional development activities as assigned by the building or district administrator, staying current with best practices and district initiatives.
  • Supervision and Safety: Monitor individual and/or groups of students in various settings (e.g., classrooms, restrooms, playgrounds, hallways, assemblies, field trips) to maintain a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Supporting District Policies: Support and implement District policies and procedures, regulations, and administrative directives, adhering to the ethical standards and codes of the profession.

Qualifications and Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must meet the following qualifications:

  • Valid Illinois Educator License: Hold a valid Illinois Educator License with Stipulations - Paraprofessional or Professional Educator License or Substitute Teacher License.
  • Effective Communication Skills: Possess appropriate verbal and written language skills, with the ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Demonstrate effective interpersonal skills, with the ability to work well with students, staff, and parents.
  • Basic Job-Related Equipment: Be able to use basic job-related equipment, with a willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and tools.
  • Experience Working with Children: Have experience working with children preferred, with a strong understanding of child development and learning principles.
  • Physical Requirements: Be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 30 pounds, with the ability to navigate various environments and settings.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Second Language Skills: Possess second language skills, which can be an asset in supporting diverse student populations and communicating with parents and guardians.
  • Experience in Special Education: Have experience working with students with special needs, with knowledge of strategies and techniques to support inclusive education.
