Job Overview

As a Teaching Assistant NEC, you'll play a vital role in supporting our teachers and students in a remote or in-person setting. This is a fully remote role, offering you the flexibility to work from anywhere, or you may be required to work on-site in Newark, NY, depending on the specific needs of our programs. You'll work under the general supervision of a licensed or certified teacher to provide instructional services to students with diverse needs, and complete related tasks as required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support students to ensure a safe, orderly environment that is conducive to teaching and learning.
  • Implement specialized instruction to students with emotional and learning disabilities, under the guidance of a licensed or certified teacher.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to meet student learning needs and promote a culture of inclusivity.
  • Communicate regularly and effectively with stakeholders, including teachers, parents, and other support staff.
  • Assist students with daily living skills, such as dressing, toileting, and feeding, as applicable.
  • Maintain accurate records and assist with record-keeping tasks.
  • Attend staff meetings and training sessions to stay up-to-date on best practices and program developments.
  • Promote equity and culturally responsive practices to create inclusive environments that support the diverse needs of our students.

Essential Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you'll need:

  • A strong understanding of the needs of students with diverse abilities, including autism, emotional disabilities, and developmental disabilities.
  • Experience working with students with diverse needs, and a proven track record of providing supportive and inclusive instruction.
  • The ability to work effectively in a team environment, collaborating with teachers, support staff, and other stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with students, teachers, and parents.
  • A commitment to promoting equity and culturally responsive practices in your work.

Preferred Qualifications

While not essential, the following qualifications are highly desirable:

  • A degree in a relevant field, such as education or special education.
  • Certification or licensure as a teaching assistant or in a related field.
  • Experience working with students with specific needs, such as autism or emotional disabilities.
  • Training or experience in crisis intervention, de-escalation techniques, or other relevant areas.
