Johns Hopkins University is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Teaching Fellow to join our team as part of the Explore Engineering Innovation (EEI) online program. As a Teaching Fellow EEI-Online, you will play a vital role in shaping the minds of high school students and introducing them to the world of engineering. About the Explore Engineering Innovation (EEI) Program

The EEI program is an introductory engineering course designed for undeclared freshmen engineering students at JHU. The course covers a range of fundamental engineering topics, including materials science, computer science, civil, mechanical, and chemical engineering. Through a combination of lectures, hands-on lab experiments, and group data analysis, students develop critical thinking skills and learn to apply mathematical and scientific principles to real-world problems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Be present and available during the entire course, including daily synchronous 3-hour sessions, coordination with the teaching team, grading student submissions, and holding occasional study sessions.
  • Review course materials and complete the online training program prior to the first day of the course.
  • Assist students remotely as they conduct various activities throughout the course.
  • Monitor discussion boards and respond to student messages in a timely manner (typically within 24 hours).
  • Arrange for at least three study session hours each week, with at least one hour hosted by the Teaching Fellow.
  • Provide supplementary instruction when requested by students outside of synchronous sessions.
  • Create additional videos as needed to clarify lab setup or fill instructional gaps.
  • Assist Instructors in grading assignments and providing detailed feedback to students within 1-2 days of the assignment due date.
  • Ensure timely posting of grades to the learning management system.
  • Uphold child safety protocols.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) discipline.
  • 3+ years of experience as a high school teacher in a STEM discipline.
  • Availability to teach from June 26 to July 28, Monday through Friday, during one of the following time intervals: 9am-12pm, 2-5pm, or 7-10pm (Baltimore local times).
  • Familiarity with Canvas or similar Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams.
  • Proficiency with Zoom or similar video conferencing software.
  • Knowledge of Algebra II and Trigonometry.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering.
  • Experience with online teaching and learning platforms.
