The Student Support Services program is a grant-funded initiative designed to provide supplemental instruction and support services to eligible students, helping them to achieve their academic goals and succeed in their post-secondary education.
Key Responsibilities of the Tutor Coordinator (South)
As a Tutor Coordinator (South), you will be responsible for developing and implementing supportive/remedial instructional services in your assigned discipline/area of responsibility. Your primary focus will be on providing assistance to students who are facing difficulties in their academic pursuits, helping them to overcome obstacles and achieve success. The key responsibilities of this role include:
- Developing and/or providing supplemental instruction in the respective discipline(s)
- Supervising peer tutors, administering assigned tutor budgets, and setting tutoring schedules
- Providing professional tutoring in the respective discipline
- Conducting in-class orientations and presentations to promote student usage of instructional support services
- Collaborating with other institutional departments to support students with course selection/enrollment, transfer assistance, and financial aid applications
- Identifying and selecting students eligible for participation in the Student Support Services project
- Monitoring, identifying, and assessing students who have educational deficiencies
- Maintaining required documentation of services, including student participation and progress
- Referring students to other institutional departments and offices for assistance as necessary
- Coordinating support services with other institutional departments
- Assisting with the compilation of data to meet reporting and submission requirements
- Interviewing, recommending for hire, and training tutors in the respective discipline(s)
- Performing additional duties assigned by the Student Support Services Director
Essential and Preferred Qualifications
To be considered for this role, you must possess a Bachelor's degree with related coursework and suitable work experience in the student support services area, or at the college/university or secondary school level. Preferred candidates will have a degree in reading, English, mathematics, education, or business.
In addition to the required qualifications, the ideal candidate will possess:
- Knowledge and skills in the subject matter of the respective discipline
- Familiarity with admission, financial aid, and post-secondary educational processes
- Ability to communicate effectively with and be sensitive to the educational needs of first-generation, low-income, disadvantaged students
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to maintain open lines of communication among faculty, students, and staff
- Proficiency in using microcomputers, MS Office applications, and subject area/discipline instructional software

Compensation, Perks, and Benefits
Laredo College offers a competitive salary range of $42,181 - $50,820 per year, depending on qualifications and experience. In addition to a comprehensive compensation package, you will be eligible for a range of benefits, including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.
