As part of our Global Commercial Services (GCS) U.S. Large Enterprises Client Group, we're seeking a highly skilled and experienced Manager - Strategic Account Development to lead our efforts in deepening strategic account relationships and driving growth in corporate payments spend across our portfolio of approximately 10 clients in the Mid-Atlantic United States.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a payments expert, providing proactive expertise on policies, benchmarking, and recommendations to optimize client programs, reduce costs, and drive efficiencies.
  • Identify and capitalize on portfolio growth opportunities, collaborating with internal resources to achieve spend expansion and growth targets.
  • Lead the development of proposals and pricing for client renewals and expansion, negotiate client contracts, and oversee the implementation of solutions.
  • Engage, develop, and influence key stakeholders across multiple levels within client organizations to demonstrate American Express' differentiated value and achieve profitability objectives.
  • Influence and innovate to overcome complex client barriers, resolve escalated issues, and manage internal stakeholders effectively.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with decision-makers within client organizations to influence program management and drive growth.

Qualifications and Skills

Essential Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 5 years of prior strategic relationship management and/or sales experience, preferably in the financial services or payments industry.
  • A proven track record of driving results and winning in a fast-paced, competitive environment.
  • Experience in managing complex and challenging clients, with a strong ability to navigate cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Excellent relationship management skills, with the ability to establish and maintain relationships at C-levels and within cross-functional areas of Fortune 500 companies.
  • An entrepreneurial approach to portfolio management, with the ability to identify opportunities and manage through the sales process effectively.
  • Innovative and collaborative problem-solving skills, with the ability to overcome barriers impacting client value or growth.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, with the ability to influence internal and external partners.
  • The ability to work in a virtual environment and manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Residence in the Mid-Atlantic US is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in the payments or financial services industry, with a deep understanding of commercial payments and corporate cards.
  • A proven track record of driving growth and expansion in a strategic account management role.
  • Experience with managing large, complex client relationships and navigating multiple stakeholders.
