Job Overview and Responsibilities

As a Patient Access Representative, you will be the first point of contact for our patients, and it is essential that you represent Mercy with the highest standard of customer service, compassion, and professionalism. Your primary responsibilities will include scheduling, registration, and financial clearance, as well as ensuring that accurate patient data is obtained and populated into the patient record. You will be responsible for maintaining knowledge and competence with insurance carriers, Medicare guidelines, and federal, state, and accreditation agencies.

  • Schedule appointments and procedures for patients in a timely and efficient manner
  • Register patients and obtain necessary demographic and insurance information
  • Perform financial clearance and pre-visit collection activities
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records and data
  • Provide exceptional customer service and respond to patient inquiries and concerns
  • Collaborate with physicians, clinical and non-clinical hospital staff, and insurance companies to ensure seamless communication and coordination of care

Qualifications and Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to possess a combination of skills, experience, and personal qualities that align with our mission and values. The following qualifications are preferred:

  • 1-3 years of clerical experience, preferably in a healthcare or customer service environment
  • Experience with medical terminology and insurance plans
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; some college education is helpful
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with patients, physicians, and staff
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to work under stress and meet deadlines
  • Knowledge of various computer systems and ability to use a 10-key calculator and computer keyboard
