About the Role: Data Engineering Manager

We are seeking an experienced Data Engineering Manager to join our team at Xbox Game Studios. As a Data Engineering Manager, you will have the opportunity to work with top game studios, including Halo, Forza, Gears of War, and Microsoft Casual Suite. You will be responsible for working closely with data scientists, applied researchers, and quality specialists to find innovative ways to integrate data solutions into the game development pipeline. This is a part-time, remote opportunity that offers flexible work-from-home options, allowing you to balance your work and personal life.

Key Responsibilities

  • Help others build code to extract raw data, mentor the team on techniques to improve its quality, and apply your deep knowledge to ensure the right data is ingested across the pipeline.
  • Lead the development of data tools used to transform, manage, and access data, and advise the team on writing and validating code to test the functionality and availability of data platforms.
  • Lead the implementation of performance monitoring protocols across data pipelines, training the team on building visualizations and collections to monitor pipeline health, and mentoring others on implementing solutions and self-healing processes that minimize weaknesses across multiple products.
  • Help others identify data management needs, oversee the design of data representation, and implement processes to ensure consistency with all relevant regulations and policies, and direct data availability within your assigned pipelines.
  • Prepare colleagues for meetings with relevant stakeholders across teams and address concerns around data requirements by providing guidance on feature assessment, and help others evaluate data costs, access, usage, use cases, and conditions across products and availability for business or customer scenarios related to one or more products.

Essential Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Math, Statistics, Computer Engineering, or a related field, and 4+ years of experience in business analysis, data science, software development, data modeling, or data engineering work.
  • Alternatively, a Master's degree in Computer Science, Math, Statistics, Computer Engineering, or a related field, and 3+ years of experience in business analysis, data science, software development, data modeling, or data engineering work.
  • Or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in designing, building, and maintaining scalable and robust cloud-based big data solutions.
  • 1+ year of experience in data governance, data stewardship, or a similar role.

Preferred Qualifications

While not required, the following qualifications are preferred:

  • Experience working with cloud-based data platforms, such as Azure or AWS.
  • Knowledge of data engineering tools and technologies, such as Apache Beam, Apache Spark, or Apache Kafka.
  • Experience with data modeling and data warehousing.
  • Strong understanding of data governance and data quality principles.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
