Job Overview and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching courses in Portuguese language, literature, culture, and translation, conducting scholarly research and publishing results of research, implementing new courses in Portuguese language, advising and mentoring major and minor students, and providing service to the department, college, university, and community. This is a tenure-track academic year (9-month) position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Translation and Interpretation with expertise in Portuguese, and the anticipated start date is August 2024.

Essential Qualifications

To be considered for this position, candidates must have a PhD in Portuguese or a related field by August 15, 2023. Candidates who are ABD will be hired as an Instructor. Native or near-native Portuguese language proficiency is also required, as well as demonstrated ability to teach all levels of Portuguese language, literature, culture, and translation. Additionally, candidates must have demonstrated ability to conduct scholarly research and publish results of research, and evidence of teaching and professional excellence in their field.
