Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct group exercise classes, including land and water-based classes, with a focus on safety, engagement, and member satisfaction
  • Develop and implement innovative class plans, incorporating various formats and techniques to cater to diverse member needs
  • Provide excellent customer service, responding to member inquiries, and addressing concerns in a professional and courteous manner
  • Maintain accurate records of class attendance, participation, and member feedback, using our GroupEx PRO system
  • Collaborate with the Wellness Director and other team members to promote programs, services, and events, ensuring a cohesive and supportive environment
  • Stay updated on current trends, research, and best practices in group fitness, wellness, and education, applying this knowledge to enhance our programs and services

Essential Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; degree in a related field (e.g., exercise science, education, or health promotion) preferred
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in teaching group exercise classes or participating in group fitness programs
  • YMCA/ACE online Group Exercise Instructor Certification (or equivalent) required within 60 days of hire date
  • Current CPR/AED certification and ability to renew every two years
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills
  • Ability to work independently, as part of a team, and with diverse populations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Specialty certifications (e.g., Y-Metro Atlanta Pilates, Group Cycling, Active Older Adult) or outside certifications approved by Metro Atlanta Y (e.g., TRX, Barre, Zumba, Pound)
  • Experience working with diverse populations, including children, teens, adults, and seniors
  • Knowledge of fitness-related issues, including aerobic vs. anaerobic exercise, nutrition, benefits of exercise, injury prevention, and THE COACH APPROACH
  • Familiarity with YMCA programs, services, and policies
