Job Overview

We are looking for an energetic and skilled Group Fitness Instructor who can plan and instruct engaging aquatic and land-based exercise classes for our residents. As a key member of our wellness team, you will be responsible for designing and choreographing classes that meet the highest standards, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all participants. Key Responsibilities

  • Design, choreograph, and select music for classes according to level and Center standards, following AFAA/AEA guidelines
  • Assess participants' needs and adjust standard programming to meet the needs and capabilities of all participants
  • Motivate class members to help them achieve high performance levels and provide feedback and support as needed
  • Submit attendance reports and monitor the effectiveness of the program schedule
  • Adhere to group fitness guidelines and ensure members and guests follow posted rules and policies
  • Develop relationships with members, answer questions, and help resolve member problems and conflicts
  • Monitor members' health needs and safety issues, and advise the Assistant Director of any concerns or changes
  • Attend assigned committee meetings and other meetings as required or requested
  • Represent Williamsburg Landing Wellness/Fitness Center on community and state committees as deemed appropriate

Essential Qualifications

To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent
  • Formal education in adult fitness programs preferred
  • A minimum of one year of teaching aerobic, cardio, and/or aquatic programs with older adults
  • Experience teaching adults with physical and cognitive challenges is preferred
  • Current certification with American Council on Exercise, Aerobic and Fitness Association of America, Aquatic Exercise Association, or equivalent
  • CPR/AED/First Aid training required
  • Knowledge of kinesthetic programming for older adults required
  • Ability to respond appropriately in an emergency and exercise sound professional judgment

Preferred Qualifications

While not essential, the following qualifications are highly desirable:

  • Advanced certification in a specialized area of fitness, such as yoga or Pilates
  • Experience working with diverse populations, including older adults and individuals with disabilities
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire others
  • Familiarity with wellness programs and services, and the ability to provide education and support to members
