Job Overview

We are currently seeking a Paraeducator Special Education - Highly Qualified to support students with disabilities in our mainstream, resource room, or center-based settings. As a Paraeducator, you will play a vital role in assisting our teachers in providing individualized instruction, support, and care to students with diverse needs. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the instruction of students with disabilities, including those with physical, emotional, or cognitive challenges
  • Manage behavior, including redirecting, calming, or removing disruptive students from the classroom
  • Monitor and record student progress in instructional areas, such as academics, daily living skills, dressing, grooming, social skills, and more
  • Provide personal care and support, including toileting, feeding, dressing, lifting, positioning, and transporting students in wheelchairs
  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other support staff to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs)
  • Maintain accurate records, including student data, progress reports, and communication with parents and guardians
  • Supervise students during activities, such as recess, lunch, and transitions, to ensure their safety and well-being
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance your skills and knowledge in special education

Essential Qualifications

To be considered for this role, you must possess the following essential qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Personal Care Assistant certification (or willingness to obtain within 30 days of start date)
  • Completion of 60 semester/90 quarter credits or an associate's degree (or higher) from a regionally accredited institution, or passage of the ParaPro exam
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and record-keeping skills
  • Ability to work cooperatively with students, staff, and parents
  • Ability to supervise students and maintain regular attendance
  • Physical ability to lift a minimum of 40 pounds and perform position responsibilities, including physical factors, work devices, materials handling, data functions, and people functions

Preferred Qualifications

While not required, the following preferred qualifications will make your application more competitive:

  • Experience working with students with disabilities, particularly in a special education setting
  • Knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices
  • Familiarity with assistive technology and adaptive equipment
  • Ability to speak multiple languages, particularly those spoken by our student population
